On Tuesday, July 16, Commonwealth Secretary-General Patricia Scotland embarked on her inaugural official visit to Togo. This visit is particularly significant as it is the first since Togo’s accession to the Commonwealth two years ago.

During her visit, Secretary-General Scotland held discussions with key Togolese authorities, including the President of the National Assembly, Kodjo Adedze, and Prime Minister Victoire Tomégah Dogbé. The talks focused on strengthening the Commonwealth’s support for Togo and exploring various areas of cooperation.

In addition to her meetings with government officials, Secretary-General Scotland engaged with civil society organizations and traditional leaders to further understand the local context and enhance collaborative efforts.

As a reminder, Togo officially became a member of the Commonwealth on June 25, 2022, after a comprehensive evaluation process.
